Clothing Repair Made Easy
Damaged clothes can be a real nuisance, particularly when it is an outfit that you really enjoy and appreciate. The good news is that you do not have to throw away a favourite item of clothing because of minor damage, or have to pay out a lot of money for repairs. Most examples of minor damage to clothing can be fixed at home by you for very little or even no expense at all. One example of a minor issue that can ruin clothing if not fixed is faulty zippers. Many people throw away clothing with a faulty zipper, which is a shame as the fix is actually very simple.
A stuck zipper, for example, can be caused by something as trivial as friction or some kind of blockage on the teeth of the zipper. One good tip is to draw a #2 pencil over the teeth; the se pencils contain natural grease within the graphite that can get the zipper moving again. Candle wax, lip balm and petroleum jelly can also be used for the same purpose.
If your zipper pull has broken off, you can easily replace it by using a key chain. Use pliers to pull off anything attached to the key chain and then use the open ring to attach it to the zipper.
A button falling off of a shirt is not the end of the world, or of the shirt! Most shirts have a spare button sewn in, if not then replace it with a button from your sleeve which is less noticeable and use a closely matching button on your sleeve instead.
Just a little effort can easily fix minor damage and save some of your favourite items of clothing. For more major repairs or alterations, leave it in the hands of the professionals rather than risk making the damage worse.
